The Jade Carvings pilot zone is located at the Central Park area of Yubei District, Chongqing. It incorporated a piece of urban neighbourhood greenery as part of its early impression. Despite the temporary nature of parts of the landscape, we hope the social benefit of such urban open space is taken into consideration when evaluating the environment. It carries the theme of art, modernity, and nature. We call this 260 m x 60 m space the floating cloud. The turn of road serves as the entrance, along the pavement, linking the sales centre – Cube of Light.
Art can be abstract and ambiguous. When art is installed in landscape, we want it to serve purpose for the city, with social value, and not just beauty. The artistic value of installations is not just about sculptures or structures, but innovative response to site characteristics and needs. From the interpretation of functionality to the atmosphere of detailed expression, the design resonate with hearts and feelings. We found clue to design on the spot. With the most common materials we created this special space.
The turn of road serves as the entrance, as well as part of the park at the street corner of the future community. We call it the sculpture square. Standing on the “balcony” of the square we can look into the stretching mountains. The square has a two-meter elevation. We sank the pathways of the park, as if a valley within the park itself, echoing the mountains at distance. A gleaming art installation on the hill is partly hidden in the Chinese tallow woods. It’s like a cloud that activates the ambiance of the square, also, a beam of light that guides visitors on the tour along the hills.
Chongqing is hilly. The project is well-proportioned along the terrain and environment. The Cube of Light segregates the spaces, mixing them up and crossing over, as well as restoring them into one. The woods we planted wraps the park up, where art talks to nature, and affection is the blood that flows in art. In this multi-dimensional space, you feel the breeze under the trees, the caress of leaves over your forehead, and you will be wow-ed by the generous open space after you walk through the trees. And this is an epitome of Chongqing’s landscape – multi-dimensional and surreal.
